Nevermind – Nirvana

DGC / 1991

★★★★★(10/10)

It was Nirvana’s debut in the early 1990s, when pop and heavy metal were the rage. In the 1970s, punk-based alternative music “Grunge” shocked the pop scene during the commercial rock boom, and at the center of it was the Nevermind.

Nirvana’s music enjoys its heyday in the 1990s, even though it has been overshadowed and bland by the constant effects of radio play. Krist Novoslick, Dave Grohl and Cobain poured white noise into a music channel that the mainstream audience could hear. But Cobain’s lyrics were filled with the passion of the Pentecost. His song, which moves constantly between passion and tension, conveys the pain of the soul pressed by indulgence deep in the soul. He is a man who hopelessly tried to make himself understood by people around the world. This is a rare phenomenon in top 40 music. It was unfortunate that a group of people who followed Pied-Piper embraced the vanity elements of Cobain’s life and art, followed by the self-destruction at a noble moment.

It brought a framework from punk, but It showed their smartness by mixing the melody that is a pop song. The best their song “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, Wild Guitar Sound-armed “Stay Away,” 32nd on the single chart, and 3rd on the mainstream rock charts-“Come as You Are”,”Lithium” and “In Bloom”-are central pieces that demonstrate the band’s outstanding talent.

The public cheered for the relentless alternative music. After beating Michael Jackson’s [Dangerous] to number one on the album chart, [Nevermind] wrote a legend about diamonds(10,000,000) and led them to an alternative band. Shocked, the masterpiece was ranked 17th on the Rolling Stone 500 list and 100th on Time magazine’s 2006 list, and was named ‘Culture and History 20th Century Album’ by the U.S. Library of Congress and recognized its value as a historical treasure.

Imagine the first viewer’s reaction after listening to this song!
My favorite Nirvana song is “Come As You Are”, but this special ability is… Rest in peace, Legend.
